Blog: Next New

One type of new media that doesn't currently exist is the usage of virtual reality headsets and cameras to experience and immerse into an environment. Virtual reality currently exist, but it is still undeveloped in many aspects. In the future, I hope technology becomes more advanced to the point where the usage of virtual reality in day to day life would be more common. For example, during times of crisis like the Covid19 pandemic, students are not able to learn like how they're used to. An online session in Zoom isn't enough in my opinion. This applies especially to students who are taking science courses where they would need to experience lab sessions. With virtual reality, students can immerse into a stimulated environment where they can learn physically. In addition to this, because of the pandemic, hospitals are forbidding visitors to keep everyone in the hospital safe. Although, some hospitals allow the family members to video call their loved ones, it just doesn'

Blog: Wiki So Far

I have been doing research on the areas that interest me in our class wiki. Some of the pages I have edited so far includes, MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), Gaming and Ethics. I found these pages very interesting to me because I felt as if I had some background knowledge in these pages already. For the MMORPG page, I edited a section about a game called, "Maplestory". Maplestory was one of the most popular games back in the early 2000s where users would be able to connect and communicate with people around the world or country. I would consider Maplestory a huge stepping stone into the New Media we have today in regards to communicating with people in virtual fantasy gaming worlds. For the gaming page, I had added more information about the game called, "League of Legends". League of Legends has been one of the most played successful MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game for a decade and ongoing. It has been so popular that it is being p

File sharing is when you send out a document, image, PDF, or anything from your computer to another over the internet. File sharing is something that occurs everyday for almost everyone in modern days. For example, when a student submits an assignment on blackboard, it is considered file sharing because you are sending your work or file to your professor over the internet. P2P file sharing or peer to peer file sharing is the act of sharing your software, content, documents  and many more over the internet where some of those content may be copyrighted and would be illegal to share to another user. According to, "The BitTorrent Effect", BitTorrent is one of the largest and most successful peer-to-peer programs ever made. BitTorrent was created by Bram Cohen and he was surprised by the popularity it had gain throughout the internet with and expectation of hitting 40 million users just a few years after he had launched his program.  BitTorrent allows users to torrent their softw

As technology advances everyday, security and risk of information leaking becomes an issue. Many new media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and many more contains so much personal information that it wouldn't be good if someone besides you had the access to it. With the internet being so enormous , there are hackers everywhere and your personal information is at risk of being leaked to the public. There is always a risk when you are posting something online. According to, "Facebook Privacy Is So Confusing Even the Zuckerberg Family Photo Isn't Private", Mark Zuckerberg's sister posted a photo of her with her family, but later found her photo was posted by someone else and is now all over the internet without her consent. This is only the tip of the iceberg compared to what hackers can do to you with your personal data on the internet. A miss-click on a link or even opening the wrong email can allow hackers to infiltrate your computer and gain access

If I was hired by Baruch College to use new media to improve the college I would advise implementing a course about new media first, although Baruch College already has this. This course can provide the fundamentals and information about new media on why or how it is useful. I believe Baruch College has already been utilizing many new media platforms, for example, the recordings of practice test sessions on Youtube , Baruch's Facebook page, Baruch's Reddit page, Baruch's remote assistance in BCTC department, Baruch's Discord server and many more. Even currently, Baruch College is utilizing Zoom for distanced learning due to the unfortunate occurrence of Covid-19. However, one suggestion I would make that isn't currently implemented is the usage of Virtual Reality to improve learning in the College. Although the resources would be very expensive, I believe it is worth the experiment to test if it would potentially improve learning from students. Classes like marketin

Creativity and New Media

My Video URL:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSXfMOIVoT4 I believe new media fosters creativity in everyone as long as people are willing to put in effort. I've always wanted to start an online business. I've recently created an advertisement video for my product and uploaded it to YouTube. I plan on using new media technologies and platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to advertise my product to reach consumers. In modern days new media tools and technologies have the potential to do almost anything along with helping an individual foster creativity.

New media is continuously advancing and being used everyday while fostering creativity. Some new media technologies or platforms would be Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, Virtual Reality, MMORPG(Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) and much more. All these platforms allows the individual to be creative. For example, on YouTube, everyone can have their own channel to create their own content for the specific niche they prefer. For example, there are food exploration videos, cooking guide videos, traveling videos, game-play videos and much more. Everyone has their own style on their videos whether it be the content or the video editing itself. YouTubers generally have their own style and song for their outtro and intro which allows their audience to recognize their channel uniquely. This allows for the individuals to be creative in order to create something that reaches to their audience and have them come back for more future videos. Another example would be pla
