Blog: Next New

One type of new media that doesn't currently exist is the usage of virtual reality headsets and cameras to experience and immerse into an environment. Virtual reality currently exist, but it is still undeveloped in many aspects. In the future, I hope technology becomes more advanced to the point where the usage of virtual reality in day to day life would be more common. For example, during times of crisis like the Covid19 pandemic, students are not able to learn like how they're used to. An online session in Zoom isn't enough in my opinion. This applies especially to students who are taking science courses where they would need to experience lab sessions. With virtual reality, students can immerse into a stimulated environment where they can learn physically. In addition to this, because of the pandemic, hospitals are forbidding visitors to keep everyone in the hospital safe. Although, some hospitals allow the family members to video call their loved ones, it just doesn't feel enough. However, with virtual reality I'm thinking we can immerse into the patients room by seeing what's around them and to feel more as if you are by the patients side. With technological advancements in new media, I hope virtual reality becomes more advanced in the future to the point where all these problems we are experiencing right now will be solved with virtual reality.

  1. Hello Fullwin,
Virtual reality can really add a new dimension for experiencing something like on the spot. The idea of using virtual reality in the education and providing support to the patients during the heard time is another strong evidence of using virtual reality in our daily life. Again by improving in virtual reality will bring new categories in the inventions.

  2. Hi Fullwin,

I also talked about the virtual reality becoming the next breakthrough new media that we can expect in the coming future. I focused more on a social media platform, kind of like instagram and facebook where you can meet people as if it was in real life. You would have the opportunity to meet anyone. But you make valid points, that the use of this technology can and will be beneficial in other parts of our society such as healthcare and education. I'm excited to see where this technology heads in the next few years.
