Blog: Advice

If I was hired by Baruch College to use new media to improve the college I would advise implementing a course about new media first, although Baruch College already has this. This course can provide the fundamentals and information about new media on why or how it is useful. I believe Baruch College has already been utilizing many new media platforms, for example, the recordings of practice test sessions on Youtube , Baruch's Facebook page, Baruch's Reddit page, Baruch's remote assistance in BCTC department, Baruch's Discord server and many more. Even currently, Baruch College is utilizing Zoom for distanced learning due to the unfortunate occurrence of Covid-19. However, one suggestion I would make that isn't currently implemented is the usage of Virtual Reality to improve learning in the College. Although the resources would be very expensive, I believe it is worth the experiment to test if it would potentially improve learning from students. Classes like marketing can utilize virtual reality technology to create interactive business marketing and VR can allow for a simulated environment where students can immerse in to experience what they are learning firsthand.

  1. Hi Fullwin, I like your idea with implementing Virtual Reality into some of the courses in Baruch. It is indeed expensive, but it is worth the shot to experiment with. With the occurrence of COVID-19, it is difficult for students taking science course to conduct labs. With virtual reality, lab classrooms can be a place for students to access!

    1. Hi Jesse,
I 100% agree with you on using virtual reality for science courses to conduct labs. That would be very effective for students to gain the lab experience that they are unable to gain during distance learning.

  2. Hi Fullwin,
I think Virtual Reality can definitely be useful to foster learning environments. It can surely make learning more interesting than just watching videos on lectures or going to Zoom calls. With a simulated environment, students may even become more motivated to learn due to the unique experiences. Hopefully one day Virtual Reality takes into full effect in schools for the better!!
