Blog Social networking

New media has a huge impact on social networking and there are a lot of benefits from social networking. Social networking allows for people to communicate efficiently. In less than one second, anyone is able to receive or send a message to one another. Anyone in society, whether business related or not, are able to connect to people all over the world through social media technologies such as Facebook. According to an article from Chicagotribune.com in 2013, it states that Facebook is, "The world's largest online social network, with more than one billion users." In addition to this, Facebooks stock price was only 30 dollars. As time passed by, social media and social networking continued to rapidly grow. In current day, Facebook is still the most used social media website with a stock price of over 190 dollars. You can view messages, photos, videos and even have a live video chat with almost anyone that is far from you in less than one second by using technologies like Facebook. In addition to this, there are also real time news update and information. Instead of having to open the television or going to your local store to grab a newspaper, all you have to do is go on a social media website like Facebook to retrieve this information in a short time span. Social media or social networking is also one of the most popular platforms for corporate and businesses to expand their reach and connect with the right consumers. Facebook allows you to advertise with specific filters that allows you to advertise towards consumers in your niche. Some examples of these filters would be age, gender, interests and much more. This is efficient and effective because businesses are able to expand their reach towards customers throughout the world with just a few clicks online.

However, despite all the pros with social networking, there are also some cons such as privacy issues. Throughout the the past few years, there has been issues in regards to privacy and security from social media websites. One major social media privacy controversy is in regards to Facebook. According to an article from Theatlantic.com, they state that if you do not want your photos to be out on the internet, do not upload them on Facebook. This is because Mark Zuckerberg's sister, Randi Zuckerberg, posted a photo on Facebook and it suddenly got reposted on Twitter. Although social media and social networking have many benefits to them, there can also be many privacy issues. That is why everyone should be careful with what they post online because there are chances that it will be leaked. I personally think the pros outweigh the cons with social networking. I believe that these technologies will continue to evolve into something even greater in the future. Advertisements will be fully taken over by online ad and social media as new generations grow older.  However, I believe there will always be a risk of privacy on the internet so the best we can do is to be more careful of what we post online.
